Gabe Woods is the subject of artwork in The Underground, a permanent exhibition at Qtopia Sydney that opened in March 2024 and examines the history of cruising and queer sexual cultures in Sydney during the 1980s and 1990s.
Curated by George Savoulis and Laura Castagnini, the exhibition takes the former public toilet block at Taylor Square as its starting point and documents the beats, saunas and parties where LGBTQIA+ communities formed, ran HIV/AIDS education and fought for sexual autonomy. Photographs, posters and objects come from the Australian Queer Archives and personal collections. The exhibition is open to visitors 18 and over.
In 2024 The Underground won the People's Choice Award for Best Museum Exhibition at the Time Out Sydney Arts and Culture Awards and was nominated for the Museums & Galleries NSW IMAGinE Awards.
Gabe Woods is a Sydney performer, gogo dancer, model and host. Work featuring him also appears in The Making of Mardi Gras at the same venue.
